Snow in September?!

Yesterday it snowed. It is only early September and it was snowing. I was freezing all day long, it was only 34 degrees outside. I had three layers on and made myself a nice cup of chai spice black tea (which was warm and delicious). There was nowhere to hide from the cold, they had just put our heaters in our room the day before. The heaters took a full day to turn on and start heating our rooms though, so they werent much help. This is only the begining of a freezing cold, snow filled winter in Great Falls, Montana. Anyways, today the sun is back and the snow is gone and I am going to enjoy it while it lasts.

The Roomie

Her name is Courtney and she is a Biology nursing major. Her and I get along quite well and she has learned my sarcastc humor. She doesnt leave the room much, but Im ok with that because then there is someone to hang out with when I feel like relaxing in my dorm. Everyone likes to give her crap because she goes to bed so early, its kind of funny. Ten o'clock and shes asleep. We like to blast music (Hey soul sister is probably our favorite) in our dorm and dance around all the time. Also, she tends to talk to herself a lot , then again so do I, but I can never really tell if shes talking to me. Best part is that her and I are both very clean people so our dorm is really nice and tidy. People stop by just to look at our room and tell us how clean it is, thats so strange to me. We also have class together, Biology, which is good because we study together. She is also my lab partner for biology lab, but is grossed out by the dissection so I have to do all the work. In all, the roomie situation is pretty good.

Float Trip

We have a class we have to take called Corp of Discovery. For this class they want us to 'find ourselves'. We meet once a week, the president of the college is my instructor, and talk about things such as what characteristics make for a happy life. This class is based on points, each semester we have to gain enough points and then we get the credits. To get points we do activities like the bonfire, the hypnotist, and yesterday we did a float trip. We drove about an hour out of great falls and hopped into rafts on the Missouri River. It was a lot of fun. Our raft had five people in in (which was the least amount...we definately needed more) and we rafted for five miles (about three hours). Each raft had water guns and buckets and we would get close to the other rafts and it was war. With about one mile left we stopped on the side of the river and climbed up this rock to the top of a cliff. I was so scared. I am scared of heights and rivers, but I had to conquer my fears and jump! I went first because everyone else was too scared, I could see rocks down below and my legs were shaking so bad. I said a quick prayer and counted 1-2-3 and jumped into the frigid water. I was so glad that I did it. That was the best part of the whole experience. For the last mile we just stopped paddling and let the current take us. I sat on the front edge of the raft and enjoyed the view. It was the most relaxing thing ever. By the end of the trip I was known as Huck (Huckleberry Finn).

Labor Day Weekend

For the labor day weekend me and two of my friends made a spur of the moment decision to drive down to Boise to support our UGF girls soccer team. We left friday after classes, about 3:00pm, and didnt get into Nampa until 6:00am Saturday morning. It was the longest trip ever. Saturday we got all geared up in our UGF shirts and painted Argos on our faces and headed to the game. Our team played NNU and in the end came out with a 2-6 loss. Then Saturday night we went to a BSU volleyball game against Portland State University, they tied. Sunday we went to the second UGF girls soccer team and we were playing college of Idaho. Once again our girls lost, 0-5. Eventhough our team lost both games, we were glad to be able to go out and show them our support. We left Nampa at 7:30am on Monday morning and with a pit stop for dinner in Butte, Montana made it back to campus at 6:30pm. The trip, we estimated, was about 24 hours in a car, but in the end we had a good time hanging out and supporting our girls on the soccer team.

Favorite Class

What is my favorite class, you might ask? Well my favorite class is Biology Lab. What's so special about this class? Well for this class we meet once a week for two hours and dissect. Last week we dissected a crayfish and a clam. The clam was kind of lame, however, because all you do is open the shell and stare at the clam. The crayfish, on the other hand, was kind of cool. We had do cut through the shell and figure out all the different parts. Next, we are dissecting a worm and a grasshopper. Those don't sound so fun to me, but it doesn't matter as long as I get to dissect. During the course of this semester we will dissect many different things, including a starfish, a frog, a fetal pig, and several other creatures. This class may be my favorite, but at the same time it is going to be my hardest class. I will have to work really hard to memorize and understand the parts of each creature inside and out for all of our practicals. That shouldnt be too hard as long as I draw accurate sketches of everything I see from each dissection. I can't wait for all the dissections we will be doing this semester, it is going to be great.
